ARTIST'S PROFILE
“It is a delight for me to teach you because so many of my students stay in the Gray”
Suzanne is a truly Southern Belle by being born in Houston in the Great State of Texas. Her father was a military aviator and the family traveled extensively and Suz saw new and exciting places as she grew. Her travels provided the mental backdrop for many of her future paintings.
Taking the more serious route in life Suz studied diligently and earned her degrees with an emphasis in Pre-law. When she moved to California at the blossoming age of 21 Suz chose a more “people oriented” career and became a very successful Real Estate Broker in Newport Beach eventually growing that business to two offices and over 100 agents. Her Real Estate career continues to this date, but her passion and salvation is paint, brush and canvases. Suz calls her recent accent as a painter as “My New Beginning” which was created out of the depth of despair.
Peace and happiness are the base feelings Suz gets and transmits thru her art. Her “Animals”, while captivating, are all about the eyes. Suz sees and captures the expressive love that is in all animals eyes. Her silhouette of Mother and child elephant is perfect examples of “it’s about the eyes”. Each one of her works is special in that they reflect the joy and warmth that the artist feels and transmits to her canvass. When she creates her “Italian” Tuscan country sides she takes a reminiscent trip back to Italy where she can still feel the leaves of the vines running through her fingers, and the nurturing warmth of the Tuscan sun on her face. “My time spent in Italy was so very special. Its ancient architecture , landscapes, statues and scenery all bring me joy and I hope I capture that joy for others.” Suz says with a gentle smile on her face.
Some of Suz’s favorite works are her “Doors” as they symbolize a new beginning and a new door opening. “As I create the scene I feel myself being pulled thru the door and entering a new light.” The peace and tranquility that transcends her “Flowers” canvasses are breathtaking. The feeling of walking in a cool green garden and then into the warm sunlight are what inspires the artist. Each flower is a cornucopia of color and life. Each Christmas the artist and her husband holiday in the Bahamas. Her home, beach and surrounding area are all depicted in her “Bahamas” gallery.
Oils are difficult to travel with so Suz has made a lot of watercolors and sketches of her beloved Bahamas.
Suz recently has participated in her first professional art shows. Some of her collection has been displayed at the Newport Beach Arts Commission competition and the Newport Beach Arts Foundation “Art In the Park”. She has more shows scheduled so check this site frequently.
When asked what her goals are, Suz replied “at this stage in my life I have worked hard and seen a lot and want to share that joy with others as the sunlight of the Spirit guides me through my art”.
